Lake Shore Railway Historical Museum is owned and operated by the non-profit Lake Shore Railway Historical Society, Inc. The museum’s location provides a family-safe, rail-fan safe setting for experiencing over 60 trains a day on the adjacent mainline tracks of the CSX and Norfolk Southern Railroads. A significant collection of General Electric locomotive history is on-site at the museum. Tours of the 1899 restored Lake Shore & Michigan Southern depot, railcars and locomotives, are available. The museum location is a premiere photography destination.
Off-season hours during April, May, Sept & Oct are noon until 4PM, Sat. & Sun. only. From Memorial Day through Labor Day hours are noon until 4PM, Wed. Through Sunday. Also open the two weekends immediately after Thanksgiving for annual "Christmas at the Station" event that features a unique craft and gift boutique, bake sale and lunch in a dining car. The museum has extended hours of operation and special activities during the Wine Country Harvest Festival in September. Other special events are scheduled in June, July and August and may include demonstrations of the museum's Heisler fireless steam locomotive (the only operative fireless steam locomotive in North America). Free public programs are held on the third Saturday evening of each month May through Sept. - call for times and topics. Groups are encouraged to schedule private tours of the museum and grounds for a nominal fee. The museum's 48-seat dining car may be rented for parties and dinners by the hour (3-hour minimum).
